What is Chronic Inflammation?
Inflammation can be classified as acute or chronic. Acute inflammation is the immune system's first line of defense against injury and infection. When injury or infection occurs, the body's inflammatory response is triggered, and immune cells flock to the area secreting large amounts of highly reactive chemicals to heal the injury and combat infection.
These inflammatory chemicals however, also attack normal tissue surrounding the site of injury and infection, which damages critical components of cells, including DNA. Chronic inflammation is a prolonged state of low-grade inflammation. While the body's inflammatory response defense mechanism is in a constant state of fighting off foreign invaders, in doing so, it's also causing damage to normal cells which may result in a variety of diseases; such as,
*Allergies
*Arthritis
*Asthma
*Eczema
*Fybromyalgia
*Gingivitis
*Gout
*Psoriasis
*Bowel Disease
*Cardiovascular Disease
*Cancer
*Alzheimer

What Causes Chronic Inflammation?
Stress, bacteria, viruses, parasites, environmental poisons, smoking, high carbohydrate - low protein diets, and obesity are just a few of the factors that promote chronic inflammation.

Although research has led many scientists to believe that aging and disease begins at the cellular level (through inflammation and oxidation) clearly, there's no way to completely stop chronic inflammation or oxidative stress; but with chronic inflammation, perhaps there is something to be said about anti-inflammatory supplementation -- expressly, anti-inflammatory foods, such as dark chocolate; i.e. unprocessed raw cocoa.
